A Splendid Fate Came Later—Love, Rosie Movie Review

Screenwriters : Cecelia Ahern

Genre : Drama, Romance

Length : 142 minutes

Story : Love, Rosie is a movie that took place in Dublin, Ireland. This movie shows us about a friend-zoned circle between Rosie and Alex, a childhood friend who always spent time together. The sacrifice, struggles, misunderstanding, are the ordinary things that they have ever passed. Love is teaching you about patience, pain, and maturity. That’s what Rosie and Alex get each other.

A family, a friendship, and a messy life that Rosie has gives an overview to viewers that this story is true to life. The way Rosie’s parents showing their affection, how Alex treats Rosie as his best friend, or even when Rosie met a lame guy. It shows in the movie, clearly. Love, Rosie packaged this romance story into a complicated conflict that brought me as a viewer feeling blue, joyful, and messed up at one time.

The storyline is simple and made me understand well. Maybe it’s because Cecilia Ahern wants to make this film more valuable in giving a meaningful message inside. Even though this storyline of the movie is simple, but there is no plot hole. Started from Rosie’s life when she was a kid until Rosie has grown up as a woman, it was packaged in 142 minutes there. Overall, this story is great and understandable, not a kind of thought-provoking movie.

Rosie and Alex’s acting are impressive. Rosie is so pure, strong, and suits the character, while Alex, can bring himself with a viewer to imagine, what if we have a best friend like Alex? Is it good? Or it will cause pain? Also, I lowkey liking Bethany and Sally’s act, they are both evils, pretty, and quite insane. Their insanity is needed to be added to this story to make the story more powerful and emotional.

How about the lighting and cinematography in this movie? Christian Ditter did his job great. The lighting is suiting the movie, especially when Rosie and Alex moment in the sunset, it amazed me through the flawlessness. Also, for cinematography, I understand in some parts which there is no dialogue. It’s understandable without any added scenes.

I recommend this movie if you’re into romance and drama, besides the relatable story which giving in this movie, Love, Rosie also gives so many life lessons there. One of the life lessons from this movie is about love, friendship, and family. Moreover, Love, Rosie isn’t that cringe or cheesy romance movie. Overall this movie is such a masterpiece in a romance movie that ever existed.
